Changing Age Divisions (Playing Up or Playing Down):
- The divisions are based on the player's age. SAAA does not apply school grade exception.
- Playing down an age level is highly discouraged and requests are generally likely to be denied. If the player has played on a travel team, all-star team, or has had played two seasons or more at the requested younger age group, the request will be denied as a matter of course. Even if those, conditions are not met, the request is likely to be denied. Understand, playing down is a exceptionally rare exception to the rule and must be substantiated with considerable justification and documentary support.
- If changing age groups prior to the close of registration, the parent/guardian must pay the difference in the cost of participating at the age group, if any. If changing to a younger age group, the parent is not entitled to a refund of the difference.
- If changing age groups after the close of registration, the parent must pay the difference in the cost plus a $15 administration fee and any additional costs which are associated with the change (e.g., the cost of a new uniform, if the uniform has been ordered). Any change after the close of registration is subject to the approval of the board of directors and the coaches at each age group affected. No change will be allowed if it would result in a team not having enough players to field a complete team or if there are no open spots at the age group requested.
- There will be no charge for a requested age group change made at SAAA’s request. If SAAA requests the player be moved to a younger age group, SAAA will refund the difference in the amount.
